PROUD Athertonians will gang-up to drive litter out of town.
On Saturday morning schoolgoers, community groups, townsfolk and councillors are joining forces to thrash the trash in four parts of town -- Howe Bridge, Chanters' Valley, Hag Fold and around Hesketh Fletcher High School.
Now clean-up organisers hope this time they'll create an even bigger impact than last year's successful clean up.
Saturday blitz is between 10am and noon, and afterwards everyone taking part will make their way to Hesketh Fletcher school for an afternoon of fun and games.
Speaking for the organisers Cllr Susan Loudon said: "Every meeting I go to, discussion always strays to litter and how it makes the place look untidy.
"The local authority needs to be efficient in cleaning up rubbish and litter. But it is everybody's responsibility not to drop litter in the first place. If every person would dispose of their litter in litter bins, or take it home, then the council could concentrate on making our town sparkle.
"Litter picking and getting rid of rubbish is an expensive business, and it costs us all money. Please help us to help you"
The day has also won support from top local businesses, with Barrs Soft Drinks, McDonalds, Tesco and Greggs offering sponsorship.
