PARKSIDE Golborne fielded two open age teams on Saturday for the first time in many years, as the club continues to rebuild for the long-term future.
The first team visited Hare and Hounds (St Helens) and continued were they had left off the week before by scoring 12 quick points in the first eight minutes, all from centre David Hindley with two tries and two conversions. Golborne continued in the same form as they completely outplayed their opponents with some excellent team play to record a superb 66-0 victory and make it two wins out of two.
Try scorers were: Anthony Spiers 3, Craig Timmins 2, David Long 2, David Hindley 2, Chris Woods 1, James Byrne 1, Kevin Marsden 1, and goals from David Hindley 3, Leon Davey 5, and Gary Dooney 1.
The second team were less fortunate as they lost by 26-0 at home to Farnworth (Widnes) but the truth is they were all heroes as they started the game with only 13 men and ended with 12 as Shun Pennington was taken off injured Man of the match was Allan Marsden with a real gutsy performance with other noticeable debuts from Mathew Varkulus, Kirk Walace, and Andy Peers.
With a few more bodies there is no reason the second team can not develop in to the same winning format as the first team and any players old or new who fancy playing are asked to turn up at training on Tuesday and Thursday nights 6.30 or ring secretey John Prince on 01942 725793.
This Saturday the first team are at home to Eccleston UGB KO 2.30 pm.The second team are away to West Bank both teams meet at Intex club at 1.50pm.
