RAMSBOTTOM landlords are being urged to take advantage of a guaranteed bond scheme set up to help homeless people across the borough.

The Bond Scheme, which is backed by a grant from Bury Metro Council, was set up 18 months ago with the aim of helping single, homeless people find and maintain a new home.

The scheme can provide a bond of up to £250 to replace the cash deposit normally required by private landlords.

Many of the bond scheme clients are claiming benefits and find it impossible to save a cash deposit.

Experienced bond scheme staff assess the needs of homeless clients and also check the accommodation is suitable before agreeing to the bond.

The tenants also receive regular support to help them in their new homes.

John Connolly, Bury Bond Scheme's Access and Support Worker, aid, "We have a very steady stream of people who need affordable homes but it is much more difficult to find suitable, affordable properties whose landlords will accept our bond or even know it is available. We are always willing to talk to landlords who may be interested."
