WAR veteran and staunch Royal British Legion supporter Reg Buller has died, aged 84.
The man who organised Remembrance Day parades for nearly half a century will take his last salute tomorrow when the Tyldesley RBL branch standard will be proudly borne and a bugler will play The Last Post.
Great grandfather Mr Buller, of Garden Street, Tyldesley died in Leigh Infirmary two months after suffering a stroke. Born in Newport, Wales he joined the South Wales Borderers and became a sergeant major at 21. He served in East Africa, Burma and India during the second world war.
In 1946 he married his wife, Millie, his wartime penpal from Boothstown. For almost 50 years Mr Buller was Tyldesley RBL branch parade marshall and a committee member, service for which he was honoured with life membership.
He is survived by his wife, son John and daughters Lynne and Helen.
Tomorrow's 11 am service at Tyldesley St George's Church will be followed by cremation at Howe Bridge.
