IT will be open house at Bury's Jinnah Day Centre next Thursday (Sep 25) for people keen to trace the history of their homes.
Bury Council is holding the event at the Alfred Street centre between 3pm and 7pm as part of national Archives Awareness Month and the North West Archives Festival.
Borough archivist Kevin Mulley, with the help of museum curator Ronan Brindley and Bury Local History Society, will be showing a range of historic records that can be used to trace the history of a house: when it was built, whether it was altered, who lived there and so on.
Sources concentrate on East Bury and the area round the Jinnah centre itself, but there will be some material from most parts of the borough.
Kevin said: "Every house has a history, and even new houses are often built on the site of vanished older buildings, like the Jinnah Centre itself.
"Knowing about the history of your house can also be very useful, for example if you are renovating the property or have structural or legal problems with it."
Although the event is for everyone, the council is keen to attract Asian families, as the Jinnah Centre is in an area with a large Asian population.
