A TODDLER is to benefit from medical equipment bought by a Bury nursery when she undergoes surgery next month.
Twenty-month-old Lucy Kaye is to have one of her kidneys removed at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. And the equipment bought with the £7,155 raised by the Little Holcombe nursery, where her mum is assistant manager, will help Lucy and other patients make a speedy recovery.
Little Holcombe, in Brandlesholme Road, raised the money through various events and donations.
Mum Mrs Vickie Kaye (26), of Tottington, explained: "Lucy's left kidney hasn't worked since her birth, due to a defect. She goes into the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital next month to have it removed.
"I found out the hospital needed money for a piece of equipment which is used for keyhole surgery and which considerably improves a patient's recovery time. And it will really help Lucy.
"The equipment itself costs £6,000 and the hospital has already ordered it."
Earlier this year, the nursery held a charity auction and raffle at Greenmount Cricket Club when a number of shops and businesses donated goods. Parents also made donations.
And three daredevil nursery staff members, Gemma Rushton, Emma Humphreys and Michelle Sutherland, raised £300 with a bungee jump.
Manager Nina Johnson also helped with fund-raising and Greenmount-based Cormar Carpets handed over £3,500.
