NEW government plans to curtail the daily 'school run,' where parents take their children to class in the car, will be good for children's health as well as helping cut congestion on East Lancashire's roads, says Peter Pike.
Getting young people to walk or cycle to and from the lessons will get them into good fitness habits at an early age, he believes.
The Burnley MP has welcomed plans announced by the Minister to tackle congestion caused by the 'school run,' backed by £50 million in extra government cash.
The proposals the Government outlined will put in place a travel plan, following consultation with parents, pupils and local transport organisations.
They will take into consideration safer routes to school, new or better crossings, local speed restrictions, dedicated cycle ways, secure cycle storage and sufficient locker spaces in schools.
