PENDLE could be in line for a £1million boost under new proposals put forward by the Government.

A consultation paper has announced possible changes in the way housing subsidy is paid to local councils.

The plans would see Pendle receive an extra £550,000 in 2004 and £460,000 in 2005.

Coun David Clegg, executive member for housing, said: "I am delighted with these proposals. We have been lobbying for these changes for well over a year.

"This change will not only benefit Pendle but will help most local councils in the north of England. Pendle can be rightly proud of the part it had played in bringing these changes about."
