BLACKPOOL Council could be set to create an Urban Regeneration Company in a bid to boost its resort Masterplan.
The company -- modelled on similar ventures in Liverpool and East Manchester -- would work to bring private investment into the area along with the estimated £400 million in public money needed to deliver the Masterplan.
In a report to councillors, Council chief executive, Steve Weaver, says the company will bring the direct involvement of the Deputy Prime Minister to the resort's regeneration, as well as preferential support from the North West Development Agency and other public bodies.
It would be lead by a high profile chairman with a business background and strong connections with the investment/development world.
However, the council will have to act quickly as only around 12 such companies are to be allowed nationally.
Councillors will consider Mr Weaver's report at a meeting of the full council next Wednesday.
