MIKE Savage's letter (September 12) regarding the emptying of bins and removal of rubbish that doesn't fit, makes me wonder if his department considered this response with due regard to the council's "one size fits all" recycling policy, and their brown bin scheme?

I am fortunate in having two postage stamp lawns to the front and rear of my mid-terrace property and am bemused by the council's belief that I will be able to fill the new bin every two weeks with their permitted list of contents.

At a rough approximation, I believe that I may be able to fill the brown bin perhaps twice a year. Longer term, the normal refuse bin (which is full every week) will be reverted to alternate weekly collection. This leads me to believe that, like previous correspondent Mr Marsh, I too will have additional material which will not "fit" the council's guidelines.

Do we get a rebate for this new unused facility of the brown bins, and the proposed reduction in the standard refuse collection service? I doubt it.

What of the material that does not fit in the refuse bin: do we leave it out in bin bags to attract dogs and vermin until we can fit the material into the bin? I feel sure that the local restaurant Est Est Est will appreciate the council's encouragement of a boom in the rat population!

Will we get bigger standard bins to cope with the reduced collection service? Or is the next environmental leap forward a red "super tax" bin to cope with any excess?

Bury.
