A MAN who lost his sight while clearing mass graves in Bosnia, and who last month claimed a motorcycle landspeed record, will deliver a pioneering presentation to schoolchildren this month.

Billy Baxter will visit Woodhey High School in Ramsbottom on Monday (Sep 22) to give a St Dunstan's history presentation.

The talk is to help pupils understand that there is often a big price to pay for conflict and that throughout the 21st century, war has changed the lives of individuals in dramatic, physical and emotional ways.

Billy (39), will deliver the "living history" element of the presentation. He went blind after contracting an illness while clearing graves for the War Crimes Commission.

This was after 20 years of active service on the frontlines of places like Northern Ireland, Sierra Leone and Bosnia.

Last month, Billy hit the national headlines when he smashed the blind solo landspeed record, riding a motorcycle at 165.8mph, almost double the previous record.

He will also visit Hazlehurst Primary in Ramsbottom to share the challenges faced by blind people in their everyday lives and how they overcome them.
