COLNE'S new management team of Nigel Coates and Gary Rishton recorded their third victory in seven days as the Red's late winner took them through to the next round of the FA Vase.
The home side got off to a flying start when a Chris Ingham cross found Scot Gizon with time and space to stroke the ball home on two minutes.
Three minutes before the break, a James Webster free kick on the right found the returning Ingham, who made no mistake driving in at the far post.
Colne were under intense pressure at the start of the second half as Chester-Le-St fought to get back in the game.
Ross Baxter produced two fine saves to maintain the lead but on 55 minutes he was helpless as the visitors reduced the deficit.
The Reds were only able to mount breakaways and it came as no surprise when the equaliser came with 14 minutes remaining.
Colne then showed their fighting spirit with Baxter making a magnificent save to keep them in the game and the midfield of Gizon and Webster working hard to protect their defence.
Just as the home fans were thinking about a replay, Ingham broke on the left and supplied the perfect cross for Simpson to score with a bullet header.
