EFFORTS to prevent car park security lights from shining into homes around Fairfield Hospital will be turned up a notch.

Householders have been troubled by the brightness of lights shining into windows, and have requested alterations several times over the past year.

The lights surround a car park extension built to accommodate extra capacity at the hospital 18 months ago.

Primrose Drive resident Alan Givney told a meeting of Bury East area board that, despite correspondence with councillors and Bury North MP David Chaytor, nothing had been done about the problem.

He said: "Lights are still shining into people's bedrooms and now that it is getting towards winter there is going to be an even bigger problem.

"Is there anything that we can do about this like getting the lights lowered and switched off at midnight?"

In addition, Mr Givney complained that moped users had been using the car park for late night races and that the lack of a surface caused dust to be blown into gardens during dry, windy weather.

Councillor Trevor Holt said that the matter would be be made a priority, adding: "It seems that we have struggled to get the health authority to respond."
