LEIGH RMI boss Mark Patterson takes his struggling side to in-form Morecambe on Tuesday night looking for improved performances from his two centre-backs Neil Durkin and Martyn Lancaster writes David Magilton
Patterson pulled no punches when he blamed Neil Durkin's poor defending as the reason why Leigh conceded a penalty against Tamworth on Saturday.
But after watching the video Patterson backtracked, admitting that although Durkin was not blameless for the incident, he had played well during the game.
"I had a go at him but after watching the video I have to admit he was one of our best players. The ball which led to the penalty should have been cleared, however, and he has to concentrate for the full 90 minutes," said Patterson.
The manager is also concerned about his skipper Lancaster, who starts a three match ban on Saturday after being sent off for violent conduct against Gravesend last week.
"He is the captain and should be disciplined and set a good example," said Patterson.
"I have told him he is not as sharp as last season.
"We need to get him back playing as he did last season. It is frustrating as he has great ability and could play in the League again."
Goalkeeper Gary Kelly, who was the hero on Saturday with a string of second-half saves, is a doubt for the game after taking a kick in the back, while striker Neil Robinson is definitely out after damaging a knee.
Morecambe have a terrific home record.
They lost just once last season, to champions Yeovil, and have won all four home games this season.
