REGARDING your report (LET, September 19), how typical that two Labour members of parliament seem to be more concerned with retaining their seats than in representing constituents.

I cannot see why Jack Straw is worried -- Labour could put up Donald Duck in Blackburn and he would romp home.

But only a short time ago Rossendale and Darwen was a Tory seat and, theoretically, an influx of middle-class voters would endanger Janet Anderson.

But wait! Wasn't it middle-class voters who granted Tony Blair power in the first place? It was but he and his government have repaid them by hitting their pockets hard without improving public services as he promised.

After all is done, I, of course, hope that it is to Darwen that these voters come.

KEITH REYNOLDS, Wyre Crescent, Darwen.
