A YOUNG building worker from Accrington is hoping to build up his career by being voted Trainee of the Year 2003.
Robert Ross is one of 43 trainees in running for the award, hosted by builders merchants Jewson, and plumbing specialist Graham.
The event will celebrate the end of two years training and hopefully result in a commemorative trophy for Robert, who works at Jewson builders merchant in Accrington.
The programme is aimed at allowing school leavers to develop crucial skills to progress their careers in the building trade.
"The Young Merchant programme is a hands-on approach to training," said Jewson training and development manager Graham Licence.
"It's a really successful programme which provides a strong base of knowledge for newcomers to the industry.
"Jewson is supporting the UK's needs for skilled tradespeople, not just among customers, but also with its branch staff."
The Young Merchant graduation day will also include a competition to find Trainee Group of the year, where teams will put their skills to use under time restrictions.
