GARY Jackson's late goal ensured Clitheroe gained a point after they fell behind midway through the second half.

The opening 45 minutes was a quiet affair as Alsager got men behind the ball and looked to hit Clitheroe on the break.

Steve McDonald had a great opportunity to put Clitheroe in front as, after being released by Cryer, he found himself bearing down on goal but played a square pass and the visitors cleared the danger.

Andy Kinsey had troubled Kris Richens on two occasions before he eventually gave Alsager the lead on 65 minutes, volleying home from a corner.

Clitheroe introduced substitute Jackson and his impact was immediate as, on 80 minutes, he shot over the bar following good work from Adam Gardner and Neil Spencer before equalising five minutes later with a header.

He could have won the game for Clitheroe in the dying seconds when he burst through on goal, but under pressure he was forced wide and couldn't direct his shot in.
