TWO lecturers at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston have helped set up the new British Shakespeare Association.

John Joughin and Stuart Hampton-Reeves, Shakespeare scholars, both helped to found the organisation -- the first of its kind, and Joughin will chair the association for its first two years.

The BSA aims to hold a major conference every two years with smaller meetings around the country in between. The BSA is open to anyone and membership costs £15. For more details see www.britishshakespeare.ws.

COMEDIAN Daniel Kitson is coming to Preston on Friday, October 10. He will be supported by Russell Howard at Stand and Deliver, The Students Union, Fylde Road, Preston.

'A NIGHT on the Tiles' is a comedy by Frank Vickery about a disastrous wedding day.

The Broughton Players will be performing it between Wednesday, October 8 and Saturday, October 11 at The Playhouse, Market Street, Preston.

PRESTON Film Society will be showing 'The Quiet American' on Monday, October 13.

The film is directed by Phillip Noyce and sees Michael Caine in the middle of a love triangle in South East Asia. The showing will be at Galloway Hall, Brackenbury Road, Fulwood at 8pm. Membership to the society is £1 and admission to each film £3.

ST LEONARD'S Gilbert and Sullivan Society are holding a new concert on Saturday, October 18.

The show, a mix of songs from different musicals, runs from 7.30pm at St Leonard's Church Hall, Pope Lane, Penwortham.

A FOLK evening with blues singer Emily Bruce is being held on Friday, October 10, at the St Peter's Arts Centre, Fylde Road, Preston.
