A MODEL Railway club which was ravaged by a vandal attack over six months ago has fought against the odds to get their annual exhibition back on track.
More than 10 years of hard work was destroyed in one night last February when a vandal smashed up all the model railway sets at the home of the Leigh Model Railway Society.
The Tyldesley-based Society faced an uphill struggle to rebuild the lovingly constructed model railway sets in time for their popular Railway Exhibition later this month, which last year attracted over 1,400 people.
And despite the Society failing to restore all the model railway sets to their former glory -- the exhibition will be go ahead at Lowton Civic Hall this Saturday and Sunday.
Secretary Steve Rogers said: "Over 10 years of hard work was destroyed in one night, it was so heartbreaking. Everywhere had been smashed up, even the toilet had been smashed up. It required major work to try and get all the layouts repaired for the exhibition.
"The exhibition is our only source of income throughout the year so we have had to work very hard to get everything repaired. Although we haven't managed to repair all the layouts, the exhibition is going ahead.
"We've got fifteen layouts from model railway society's across the country coming to the exhibition, where their will be plenty of attractions to see for all the family."
The exhibition at the Civic Hall on Hesketh Meadow Lane, Lowton, runs from 10am until 6pm on Saturday and 10am until 5pm on Sunday.
Admission is £3 for adults, including free programme, £1.50 for children and senior citizens and a family ticket is £7.50 based on two adults and two children.
