CHARITY workers are on the road to new success after pulling through a bad patch.
With the future looking bright the Friends of Tyldesley's Fourways Assessment Unit are now seeking new members to help strengthen their team.
The voluntary group which supports Fourways was launched 25 years ago by community police officer Peter Lloyd.
They organised fund raising events to buy gymnasium equipment and two mini buses for the Cleworth Lane centre which opened in 1974 to offer assessment, rehabilitation and support for people over 18 with a physical disability.
Friends of Fourways aimed to provide independent support to centre users and also paid for a holiday for 25 users and 25 carers to Torremolinos and a specially adapted caravan.
Unfortunately changes came and due to personal circumstances some members had to withdraw from the group leaving it short of members and business contacts. Fund-raising drew to a halt and the caravan based at Blackpool had to be sold.
However, a new group is forming and the fund-raising ball started rolling again with a garden party and sponsored cycle ride. A gentlemen's evening has been arranged at Astley's Rendezvous club on October 10.
Earlier this year committee members Frank and Pat Heyes went white water rafting to boost the coffers and staff, carers and families are also heavily involved in the activities.
The Friends now have eight committee members and are hoping to attract more.
Spokesman Phil Haydock said: "We need all the help we can get, but the future is looking bright for this good cause and the people who pass through the doors of Fourways."
