ATHERTON Collieries had a superb 3-3 home draw against top of the table Clitheroe, but should have won after being 3-1 up with only 10 minutes remaining.
John Blackley, Martyn Stewart and Paul Bridge got the goals for the local side, but a disputed freekick on 87 minutes enabled Clitheroe to earn a point.
Colls went out of the FA Vase against Dunston Federation Brewery (Gateshead) at the first hurdle last Saturday and once again they were undone by a late goal. Dunston took the lead on nine minutes and Martyn Stewart equalised on 73 minutes. Colls hit the woodwork twice, before Steve Holmes broke Colls hearts with a goal from close range on 88 minutes. Colls are at home again this Saturday when Squires Gate are the visitors.
