ATHERTON LR U9s picked up their first win, beating Farnworth Lions 1-0.
LR played well and were 1-0 up at half time but needed a couple of good saves to keep their lead intact.
The Under 12s reached the next round of the Lancashire County Cup with a 4-3 away win over Norden St Clements.
LR struggled early on as Louis Murray saved a certain goal and David Jackson cleared off the line. But against the run of play they took the lead with an own goal.
Norden worked their way back into the game and were 2-1 ahead at the break. Matty Jackson levelled before Nordan again regained the lead. Several changes kick-started LR and two goals from Callam Walshe and Danny Bithell fired them into round two. David Jackson was man of the match.
The Under 14s went down 9-2 to Goose Green with goals from Boxwell (2) but the Under 15s romped to an 11-2 win over Bolton County. Barnes led the way with a double hat-trick with others coming from Giles, Parkinson, Brown, Sargent and Unsworth. The Under 15s are looking for a reserve goal keeper. He must have some experience aged 15 and under on August 1, 2004.Telephone Mr. J Brown 01942 876717.
