SAPPI'S Blackburn base has launched an environmental grant scheme.
The scheme was created to promote the commitment of Sappi -- a world leader in paper manufacture -- to achieving the highest possible standards of environmental performance.
The company, of Livesey Branch Road, Feniscowles, aims to raise the profile of those issues in the community by awarding grants to assist with the cost of carrying out environmentally beneficial projects.
Although the scheme is targeted at young people in schools and scout groups, walking and rambling societies and other environmentally conscious groups are welcome to apply.
Eligible projects include pond restoration, replanting of woodland, refurbishment of local features such as water fountains and war memorials and schemes that encourage alternative transport.
Details of the scheme have been posted to all schools in the vicinity and posters are on display in local libraries.
Applications must be submitted no later than November 30 and projects completed by June 30 2004.
