A SHOPPING trip to Manchester has led to a supersonic trip of a lifetime for Margaret Berry.
Together with her husband, John, she will take to the skies on one of Concorde's farewell flights, marking the end of commercial supersonic travel.
Mrs Berry (54), of Avon Drive, Walmersley, and her husband, John, were handed a leaflet in Manchester offering the chance to win two tickets for one of Concorde's final flights.
"I rang the number on the leaflet and answered a multiple choice question about the time it takes Concorde to fly from London to New York. I just guessed and then thought nothing of it," said Mrs Berry.
"But then I got a telephone call saying I had answered the question correctly and had been entered into a prize draw and won." Concorde is due to be taken out of service later this year and flight fans are snapping up tickets for the last Trans-Atlantic flights at a cost of more than £4,000 one way.
The plane travels at up to 1,350 miles per hour, twice the speed of sound, and at 60,000 feet, almost twice as high as other commercial jets.
The supersonic aircraft will visit various UK airports between October 20 and 24, including Manchester.
Margaret and John (58) will take off from Manchester on Wednesday, October 22, and enjoy a champagne flight, lasting just under two hours. Concorde will break the sound barrier over the Bay of Biscay, off the west coast of France.
