AN eight-week programme to improve a busy Burnley road has started.
Lancashire County Council Engineering Services are working on the junction of Todmorden Road, Yorkshire Street, Belvedere Road and Harry Potts Way.
County Council bosses said the work is essential to upgrade traffic light control on the junction and add pedestrian phasing and crossing facilities to the lights.
John Burgess, Lancashire County Council project manager, said: "Due to the nature of the work it will involve nearside lane closures which will inevitably lead to hold ups in the traffic.
"Also, for a short period when they are crossing cables completely across Belvedere Road, there will be four way temporary traffic lights in use.
"Because the roads involved are classed as traffic sensitive the work can only be carried out between the hours of 9.30am to 3.30pm daily, the lanes are being reinstated outside these times."
