SHOPPERS were given the chance to pick up crime prevention advice, along with their groceries, as part of a unique police initiative.

Senior officers were on hand to dish out advice and answer queries at the first-ever police roadshow at Burnley's Asda superstore.

Police held the event yesterday in a bid to highlight some of the successful initiatives in the borough and to get feedback from members of the public.

The event attracted widespread interest from shoppers, many of whom stopped to watch a video of a recent drugs raid carried out by police in the town.

Chief Inspector Richard Morgan took to the store's public address system to invite people to drop in to the shop foyer where he, and other senior and community beat officers, were on hand to answer queries.

Officers also dished out newsletters highlighting recent police initiatives, as well as information about Burnley's drugsline and crime prevention.

Chief Insp Morgan said although police already held frequent meetings, the idea of dropping in at the supermarket was to encourage more people to come forward with queries, or concerns.

He said: "We need to know what the public thinks about the local police service so we can improve and help people feel safe, involved and reassured."
