TWO "inept" thieves each helped themselves to cans of oil from a garage shop that had CCTV covering the entire premises.
Burnley Magistrates heard how Andrew Leonard, 35, was later stopped by police while Michael Wood, 30, sold his can for a £10 wrap of heroin.
Leonard, who also stole a child's bike that the family had to pay £5 to get back and went shoplifting in Matalan, could be facing jail.
The defendant, of Keighley Avenue, Colne, who has 29 previous convictions, admitted three counts of theft. He was bailed until October 21 for an all-options open pre-sentence report and was warned he may well go to prison.
Wood, of Glen Street, Colne, who has 36 previous convictions, was given an 18-month community rehabilitation order, to run concurrent with a present court order, and to include the Dordrecht initiative.
He must pay £17.99 compensation and pay £65 costs.
Mark Irlam, defending, said the garage offence was inept and unsophisticated. CCTV covered the whole of the shop.
Wood , a heroin addict, had been going to prison regularly, without the desired effect. Custody held no fears for him.
He had been complying with a court order and for the first time in years was getting some help and guidance. Wood was due an interview for a labouring job.
For Leonard, Mr Irlam said he clearly needed help to stop offending and coming before the courts.
