ROAD safety in Darwen is set be improved with the announcement that roadworks in three parts of the town should be completed by March next year.
The first is the creation of a zebra crossing in Hoddlesden Road, between the Ranken Arms and the Hoddlesden Conservative Club, and improvements to the footpath leading to the crossing point in Carus Avenue.
A white lining scheme will be provided in Johnson Road between Eccleshill Gardens and Waterside, which is aimed at creating an area on both sides of the road where both pedestrians and cyclists are given greater priority.
The final of the three schemes will be to place bollards on a stretch of Long Hey Lane to protect a drain from vehicles.
The jobs are expected to cost around £30,000.
Blackburn with Darwen Council's local transport plan rural cash will pay for two-thirds of the work and the remainder will be covered by funds from the East Rural Community Regeneration Board.
