TWO nurses from the Fylde Coast are in line for the same national award after impressing patients with their care and commitment.
Justine Eadie from Poulton and Lynette Bracegirdle from Blackpool have both been short-listed for Dettol Community Nurse of the Year title, which could earn them a professional bursary and a European city break.
Midwife Justine -- who works for Poulton Clinic -- was nominated by patient Laura Quirk as a thank you for the 'sincere support and advice' she received from the nurse during her pregnancy.
"Justine has not only provided this professional advice whenever Laura has needed it, but has also displayed a genuine, caring and attentive manner to put Laura at ease and make her feel comfortable," explained an awards spokeswoman.
And Lynette -- based at Blackpool Victoria Hospital -- was nominated by breast cancer patient Norma Horan who described her as 'a caring, committed professional'.
"Whenever Norma needed her, Lynette was there. When Norma needed to transfer to a hospital nearer to home, it was Lynette who personally took the records in her own car to speed up the process," the awards spokeswoman said.
There are three categories in the competition -- health visitor, midwife and community nurse.
Justine and Lynette will find out in early November if they are category winners -- scooping a professional bursary, champagne and flowers.
One of them could then be named the overall Dettol Community Nurse of the Year, winning a break for two to a European city.
"I'm absolutely flabbergasted to be nominated," said Lynette, a nurse for 21 years whose work also involves caring for patients in Lancaster.
"I think you underestimate the impact you make on somebody's life. But I can't see that I deserve this award."
Backed by antiseptic cleaning brand Dettol, organisers said the award has been set up to reward the 'exceptional achievements, contributions and excellence' of the UK's health visitors, midwives and community nurses.
