A 47-YEAR-OLD Blackburn man caused £1,000 worth of damage to a car belonging to the mother of his former girlfriend.

Blackburn magistrates heard it was the second time Alexander Peake had attacked the vehicle belonging to Rita Campbell.

The first attack had prompted her to install CCTV equipment at her home in Montrose Street and Peake was caught on film when he made a return, late-night visit.

Peake, of St Albans Court, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to damaging the car and was ordered to pay £255 compensation.

He also admitted breaching the conditional discharge imposed three weeks earlier for the previous attack and was fined £50.

Tom Snape, prosecuting, said the relationship between Peake and Mrs Campbell's daughter had finished 12 weeks ago. Since then there had been a number of occasions when property was damaged and Mrs Campbell had installed security lights and closed circuit TV as a result.

On Friday morning she discovered that her car had been scratched and the video clearly showed Peake causing the damage.

The previous offence, when Peake threw a large stone through the rear window of the car, had resulted in the conditional discharge being imposed on September 4.

Elliot Taylforth, defending, said Peake was taking medication for depression and one of the side effects was mood swings

"The medication sometimes takes away his inhibitions and he is left feeling that he doesn't care what happens to him," said Mr Taylforth.
