WHAT is going on with local Tory councillors? Can anyone enlighten me?

Councillor Yvonne Wright (Your Letters, September 12) strongly supports the alleged Bury market traders' opposition to the proposed new town centre development. In the same edition of the Bury Times, Tory leader Councillor Roy Walker publicly defended the Westfield development, saying: "I think the developers might be doing us a favour".

What is the up-to-date Conservative position on this proposed development? Do they know? Does anyone know?

Isn't Coun Wright a member of Bury Council's planning control committee? Because of her public opposition to the applicant and the development (not to mention operating her own business in the town centre) will she now have to "declare an interest" at future planning meetings when this item is on the agenda?

If so, will Coun Wright be unable to vote or speak on the subject while she remains a member of the planning committee?
