A POPULAR Burnley nightclub could soon be opening its doors again after it was put up for auction.

The Circulation Club in Holmes Street, has been closed for more than five years but has now been refurbished.

The venue, a popular spot for Northern Soul nights in the 1970s, is situated at the junction with Oxford Road, in mixed commercial and residential area close to town centre.

The two-story building has a bar and dance floor which could take up to 1,000 clubbers when complete. The first floor has already undergone partial refurbishment.

The stone building in Burnley Wood was originally built as a cinema, but many years ago was converted into a bar and nightclub.

The club is in a residential area and had been the subject of complaints about noise and nuisance.

On one occasion the club lost its music licence following complaints to Burnley Council, though it was won back on appeal.

In 1989 plans to convert part of the building into industrial and commercial uses were turned down by the council.

The premises have a Justices on-licence, and public entertainment licence, allowing 500 people at ground floor level and a further 500 upstairs when work is complete.

There is a special hours certificate until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights.

The auction price is expected to be between £80,000 and £90,000 when the building comes up for sale on Wednesday, October 15.

The auction will be held at 2.30pm, in the Atlantic Suite, Terminal 2, at Manchester Airport.
