AGE Concern Lancashire is launching a new campaign to help older people make sense of their finances.

During Age Concern Week, which runs until Saturday, staff and volunteers at Age Concern in Keirby Walk, Burnley, will be handing out free information to help older people make the most of their cash.

Hundreds of pensioners live on lower incomes than they should do because they fail to claim benefits or pay too much tax.

Linda Salazar, information and advice manager for the charity, said: "Pensioners could boost their incomes by claiming benefits or by paying less tax, but the system is complicated for pensions experts never mind older people without specialist knowledge.

"During Age Concern Week we hope to give people useful information to help them navigate their personal financial maze.

"It's particularly important that people understand their finances because the Government is about to launch the new pension Credit, which will effect many pensioners."

Age Concern has linked up with the Pensions Service, who will be hand to offer specialist advice at the Burnley office on Wednesday morning. To make an appointment for advice telephone 01282 427222 or call into the office.
