THIRTY firefighters tackled a blazing barn containing gas cylinders at a remote farm near Accrington and rescued eight cows.
Fire crews were called to West Farm, in Sandy Lane, at 8.20am yesterday and put out the flames within hours.
Firefighters were at the barn throughout the day and night to keep watch for on the smouldering remains.
Propane gas had been stored at the barn. Firefighters removed several cylinders but could not be sure they had got them all.
The cause of the fire was under investigation today.
The farm is up a remote track and the fire crews had to search for a water supply in Sandy Lane.
