A RECRUITMENT drive is under way for people of "good character and integrity" to become magistrates.
Applications for lay people wanting to sit on next year's bench are being sought before the deadline of November 30.
There is no requirement for any qualifications although applicants must be aged between 27 and 65. Lay magistrates are not paid for their duties, but can claim allowances for travelling, subsistence and financial loss.
A spokesman for the Lancashire Magistrates said: "Magistrates must be of good character and have personal integrity. The job involves the ability to weigh evidence and reach reasoned decisions.
"Magistrates should display an understanding of the local community and society in general."
Further details are available by either writing to The Secretary, Lancashire Advisory Committee, County Hall, Preston, PR1 8XJ, or calling 01772 533542 or 533114.
