CLITHEROE remained top of the league on Saturday, despite a disappointing performance in front of their best crowd of the season, with just over 250 spectators witnessing the match.

The entire goal scoring action was packed into the final five minutes of the first half.

On 41 minutes the visitors shocked Clitheroe by taking the lead from a debatable penalty. Lee Sculpher tackled Dennis Quandjanian inside the area, the striker went down and the assistant referee awarded the spot kick to the dismay of the Blues.

Quandjanian recovered and scored, off the post, from the spot.

Clitheroe hit back immediately with John Paul Fagan levelling for the Blues, with a well struck long-range effort.

With five regulars missing from Clitheroe's starting line up it could still turn out to be a point gained as opposed to two points dropped.
