AN EX-HEROIN addict helped himself to petrol to the tune of £41 using his former bosses' credit card, a court was told.
Burnley Magistrates heard how James Pickup, 26, handed over the card at the Star service station, Burnley Road. When it wasn't accepted, staff asked for other payment, but the defendant drove off.
Pickup, of Townfield Avenue, Burnley, admitted theft in May. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and told to pay £65 costs and £41 compensation.
Richard Taylor5, defending, said the offence seemed to have brought Pickup to his senses. He had gone back to live with his parents, was drug free and had started a job.
It was the defendant's first offence of dishonesty.
