RESIDENTS banking on a better environment will have their wishes granted by Barclays.
Prestbury Close residents and the wider community of the Springs estate in Bury have been given £6,500 from the Barclays SiteSavers grant scheme.
The central area of the communal gardens in Prestbury Close will be given a makeover, complementing an on-going project (funded through the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB)) to improve the back garden areas.
Improvements feature extra security, including lighting and clearing overgrown shrubs, and a communal landmark that will be central to the flats in a bid to get residents to make use of the area and boost community safety.
The Barclays SiteSavers scheme is being implemented by Groundwork Bury Environments for the Community project as part of the SRB5 East Bury Initiative and in partnership with the Springs Tenant Management Co-operative.
Further funding has been secured from the Community Development Fund to provide additional security.
Residents, including children, have contributed towards the plans for the garden area.
Anna Forster, of the Springs Tenant Management Co-operative, said: "Residents will hopefully feel safer in and around their homes. The scheme will also encourage residents to sit out and socialise with their neighbours."
Lucy Burton, Environments for the Community project officer, said: "We are really pleased that funding has been obtained to make the security improvements which are so needed at Prestbury Close. We hope this will result in a space which can be used and enjoyed by all the residents."
