DARWEN Tower Credit Union is going from strength to strength and recently recruited its 500th member.
The credit union, which is the town's own savings and loans co-operative, was set up in February 1996. Three years ago it opened premises on The Circus, in September, and has been growing rapidly ever since.
The credit union's members now have combined savings of more than £75,000 and it has made more than £200,000 worth of loans to its members during its seven year life.
Credit Union president Janice Parker said: "We are pleased to reach yet another important milestone in the growth of the Credit Union. Our aim is to provide affordable and accessible financial services to all the people of Darwen.
"We will now be working towards boosting our membership to 1,000."
