A MAN was arrested today after a blaze gutted a town centre flat.
Police, fire crews and paramedics attended the incident in Manchester Road, Haslingden, at 8.30am.
The flat, next to Oscars Fine Art and Framing, was badly damaged by the fire.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the blaze.
PC Paul Hope, of Lancashire police, said: "A man has been arrested this morning on suspicion of arson. He will be interviewed by officers at the police station today. We are gathering witness statements to help our investigation."
One elderly resident, who asked not to be named, added: "There was smoke everywhere. I don't know if anyone was inside the flat but it was a real mess. If anybody was inside I think they would be lucky to get out alive."
