A YOUNG musician has stepped in to rescue a Remembrance day service in Hapton -- thanks to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

The tradition of having a bugler to play at the service was under threat after it was revealed the regular bugler would be unable to play at this year's memorial event.

But thanks to an appeal in the LET, Tim Gowers, 29, has came forward to fill the gap. His mum, Avril, of Newton Street, Burnley, read about the dilemma and volunteered her son, who learnt how to play the instrument while in the Sea Cadets.

Tim works away on the Isle of Man as a mechanic and returns home at weekends and has vowed to give it a go.

He said: "I haven't played the bugle for a while but if I can help out I will."

The Last Post is usually played at the memorial service but this year the parish council was unable to find anyone to perform the task after the regular musician left to attend university.

Elizabeth Duckworth, 20, who has played the instrument since she was a youngster, left to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music.
