A WOMAN who won her battle with breast cancer has set up a charity group to help raise awareness of the disease.
Elaine Brogden beat the disease three years ago -- and she has decided to set up a Leigh group for the charity, Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
Elaine of Beech Grove, Leigh is not the only one from her family to be affected by breast cancer. Her mother died from the disease, which still kills more than 1,000 women every month.
The new group will hold a range of fun and fund raising events -- with a dinner dance planned for later this month.
Elaine told the Journal: "I had a horrendous experience with breast cancer three years ago and I feel very lucky to be alive. I felt very strongly about starting this group, especially after the disease not only affected myself but my mother and aunt.
"We're hoping that together the group can do something worthwhile and have some fun as well."
For more information on the group, or the dinner dance being held on Friday, October 17 at the Rendezvous, Higher Green Lane, Astley, contact Elaine on 07710 534839.
