ATHERTON LR U15s are five points clear at the top of the table thanks to a sensational winner against Deans Youth by Shane Sargent.
Deans Youth had the upper hand early on but LR held out and took the lead with a goal from Sean Barns. Deans Youth quickly took control and pushed forward. With the help of two suicidal passes Deans Youth went 2-1 up.
With only five minutes remaining in the first half, Sean Barnes equalised with his second goal of the game. Deans Youth started the second half the better team, but missed their chances along with some fantastic saves by Ian Surples. LR held out to score the winning goal with seven minutes to go.
After a disappointing performance last week, Atherton LR U14s beat Birchwood Juniors 8-4 in the first round of the Lancashire Cup.
LR led 4-3 at half time with goals from Bamford (3) and Boxwell. Boxwell added two more in the second half and there was another from Anderton. Beazant was man of the match.
