IN response to Peter Duerden's complaints (Letters, September 17), I would like to thank Blackburn with Darwen parks department for their swift action in replacing the gates into Witton Park and Pleasington playing fields in Blackburn.
Several residents in and around the Cherry Tree area have said how much of an improvement the gates have made.
The council has not "just set up another volunteer group" and left us to it.
They provided help with setting up and allocated £3,000 for things that the group sees as important.
This is only the beginning as we also aim to apply for grants from other sources.
If Mr Duerden feels so strongly about the parks and open spaces, then he is welcome to join the group either as a member or just come along to one of our meetings.
He might find answers to some of his questions.
We all know that the rejuvenation of Witton Park can't and won't happen overnight, but we will get there sooner rather than later.
Anyone who wants to come to a meeting should contact me by e-mail and I'll let them know when the next one is.
