A POLICE chief has been leading by example once again.
Insp David Jones, head of Prestwich and Whitefield Township Police, struck on Wednesday night, on his way to a meeting in Prestwich.
He was waiting at lights in his own, unmarked car when he recognised a Jaguar S Type behind him as one stolen in Salford. He contacted colleagues and attempted to follow the vehicle until help arrived.
Police pursued the vehicle to Bolton where it lost control and collided with a kerb, hitting a seven-year-old boy who suffered minor injuries. The 17-year-old driver was arrested at the scene while a male passenger escaped on foot.
In the past, Insp Jones, who was wearing a dressing gown at the time, arrested a burglar who was trying to break into a neighbour's home and, on another occasion, chased two thugs while in his slippers.
