RESIDENTS in Redvales angered over plans to build a new nursery in the area held a public meeting on Monday.
A grassed area between Dorset Drive, Topham Street and Alfred Street, in the Springs area of Bury, has been earmarked for a new Sure Start nursery. But the Save Our Springs group say the site is the last piece of green land in the area and they do not want to lose it.
At the meeting, held at the Liberal Club, in Nelson Street, councillors Connie Fitzgerald and Dr Farook Chaudhry lent their support to the group, along with around 60 residents from Redvales.
Mr Trystan Davies, a Springs resident, was voted in as the chairman of the group, and urged people to write letters to the planning department at Bury Council, write to their MP.
The Save Our Springs Group has also produced a list of alternative sites for the Sure Start building
The group is also hoping that the land will be given village green status, and also plan to demonstrate if the site is visited by the council's planning committee.
A spokesman for Bury Council's planning department confirmed that the application could appear on the agenda at the November 11 meeting.
