A SCHOOL in Nelson which caters for pupils with learning difficulties has been praised by Government inspectors who said it had "many good or excellent features".

Inspectors who visited Townhouse Community Special School in early June published their report this week.

The school caters for two to19-year-olds with severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties.

They praised the school's progress since its last inspection in 1997 and found: "There is an extremely high level of commitment to continue to move the school forward."

Headteacher Debbie Morris said: "The staff and governors always work very hard for our pupils and the school and it is very pleasing to receive such a positive evaluation from Ofsted."
