THE boss of one of the North West's leading opticians has warned of "an alarming development" over vision screening for children.
Mr Stuart Goodman, owner of Yates and Suddell which has shops in Ramsbottom and Bury, expressed his concerns to coincide with National Eye Week last week.
He says schoolchildren in Britain may only ever have their vision screened once.
Mr Goodman said: "If the recommendations of the government's Health for All Children report are followed, the Eye Care Trust warns the UK may soon have the worst child vision screening system in the developed world."
