The annual taster weekend for boarders at St Mary's Hall, Stonyhurst, will this year have a Tolkein theme, marking 111 years since the author's birth.
Tolkien regularly visited Stonyhurst College, where his son John studied for the priesthood during the Second World War, and St Mary's Hall has a library named in the author's honour.
The preparatory school open its doors on October 11 and 12, when youngsters aged seven to 12 from across the UK will be invited to sample life as a boarder.
There will be a banquet to celebrate the birthday of Tolkien and a guided walk along the Tolkien Trail.
