THIS statement is published at the request of Chancellor Formecon Limited in accordance with its rights under the Defamation Act 1996, to contradict a press statement by Bury Metro Council.
"On July 11, the Bury Times published an article which also appeared on its website under the heading "Beware new accident book scam" which referred to Chancellor Formecon Limited and reported what purported to be a warning by Bury Metro Council's Health and Safety Unit.
Chancellor Formecon Limited asserts that the council was wrong to suggest that, while businesses must have an accident book, they do not require other material as well.
It wishes to point out that all businesses are required (other than in certain limited circumstances) to display posters setting out details of their responsibilities under the law to ensure the health, safety and welfare of their employees while at work.
What Chancellor Formecon is doing is to offer to make available not only the poster and accident book (at the same prices at which they are available from HSE Books) but a considerable amount of additional information and literature to assist businesses in complying with their obligations under applicable Health and Safety legislation. In doing so, it is carrying on a legitimate business.
Chancellor Formecon rejects entirely the criticisms of its activities by Bury Metro Council's Health and Safety Unit. Those activities most certainly do not involve any "scam"."
